How To Get Better Sleep During Those Really Hot Nights

Getting some rest when the weather is really hot can be quite a challenge, especially if you don’t own an air conditioner. The heat makes us uncomfortable, affecting our ability to easily fall asleep, and sleep restfully throughout the night.

Here are a few ideas to help you stay cool during these hot nights:

1. Take a cool shower

Taking a shower helps to bring down your body temperature and makes you feel comfortable enough to go to sleep.

2. Use cotton bedsheets

Are you usually a fan of satin, silk or bedsheets made from synthetic fabrics? Not during hot weather, please! Using satin or synthetic fabrics can make you feel hot and more likely to sweat, so you should opt for breathable bedsheets made from cotton

3. Opt for loose and breathable nightwear

Tight fitting nightwear will only serve to make you feel uncomfortable in the hot weather, so wearing loose night clothes in breathable fabrics like cotton are the way to go.

4. Use a water bottle

Do you have a water bottle? Fill it up with really cool water or place it in the freezer for a while. You can then place the chilled bottle on your feet to cool yourself off enough so you can fall asleep.

If you don't have a water bottle, applying ice packs to your pulse points will also help to cool you off just as effectively.

5. Turn on the fan

You might need a rechargeable fan if the electricity isn't always constant.

6. Turn off the lights

Did you know that even energy saving light bulbs give off heat? Hot nights are not the best times to sleep with the lights on.

7. Ensure your bed is big enough

If you share a room with your partner, you'll definitely enjoy the shared body heat during the cold weather. During hot weather however, the shared body heat becomes more of a nuisance than anything else. Having a big enough bed helps you both stay cool and sleep well even in hot nights.
